Hidden Feeling

Hei, let me introduce myself. I’m Layla Rainier. I’m a tenth grader in Seattle High School. I live in Seattle. I always dreamed since I was just a little girl that I wanted to marry a prince and live happily ever after. Of course, in the real world, theres no prince, so I want to marry my dream boy. Someone who will support me, who will love me just for who I am. What I can tell you from my story is that you have to believe that dreams do come true. :D
I’m just a normal girl here. I’m not so pretty and I’m not so smart and I’m not so rich either. I’m not too popular too. But everything changed when he came to school
Friday morning, when all of us were studying for a math test, came our teacher, Mr. Mike, who told us that there was a new student. He’s tall, atletic, and gorgeous! The most perfect boy I’ve ever seen! When he walked into the class, all the girls, excluding me, were screaming!
“Hey, y’all! My name is Chris Navolca. I’m from London. Hope we can be great friends.” He smiled.
“I’ll be in my office if you need me, ok? Take a seat and hope you like it in here.” said Mr. Mike, smiling halfheartedly.
“Yes, sir.”
After Mr. Mike walked out of the class, he sat down at the empty seat next to me.
“Hallo.”
“Hi.”
“What’s your name?”
“I’m Layla. Nice to meet you.”
“I’m Chris. Nice to meet you too.” He smiled. “Can you help me?”
“It depends what you ask for.”
“Mmmm I’m new here and..well, I don’t know anything. Can you give me a tour or something?” His confused face stunned me for a while.
“Okay…” I managed to nod my head.
“Well, see you around.”
“Okay. See you too.” I smiled.
He rose and went to talk to the boys. Oh my God, I can’t even remember what he said. He’s so handsome!
“Hey, Layla!”
I turned around to see Crystal, the most popular girl in the school, shouting at me.
“What is it, Crystal?” I said, shouting too.
“Listen to me. You won’t be able to be his girlfriend. You hear me? He’s going to be my boyfriend! So don’t you ever talk to him again!”
“Who are you to control me? Do you think that because you’re the most popular girl in school makes him love you?”
“Of course.” She said confidently. “ I never met a boy who can resist me! Well, I’m better than you, normal girl..” She laughed.
“Listen to me, Crystal.” I rose from my seat with a defensive posture. “ At least I’m better than a doll who likes to waste money!”
She became furious and almost hit me in the face when I realized nothing hit me. Chris had block the punch to protect me.
“Ladies, stop fighting!” He shouted and he sounded very.. protective.
“Layla, are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” I said as I was trying to control my breath.
“Hey, Chris. I’m Crystal. Nice to meet you. Can I have lunch with you?” Crystal said while twisting her hair, despite what she almost done to me.
“Never!” His face became furious. It made me sick for a while. I’m the reason he was acting this way. “I will never hang out with someone who always selfish!”
His words made her shocked. I thought maybe she never been treated like this.
“I’m sorry. I was rude. But I really hate it if someone got hurt..”
“……... It’s okay.” She managed to say.
After the whole incident, everybody became quiet. Everyone started to chat about the whole fighting scene. Crystal and Chris were nowhere to be seen.
“Layla!”
“Chika!”
“Hei, why do you look so pale? “
“It’s nothing.” I lied.
“Come on, Layla! Tell me, please..” She begged.
“Ok!” I shouted, feeling the need to tell someone the news.
“So, Chris..”
“Who’s Chris?” She asked, apparently she didn’t hear the news that there was a new student.
“He’s new here. He’s talking to Alex now.”
“Oh my God! He’s gorgeous!” She smiled and excited.
“Yes..”
“Ok, so…”
“So, Chris is new here. And he wanted me to give him a tour or something to know the school better. Then Crystal told me that I can’t talk to him because she wants him to be her boyfriend!” I shouted.
“Wow.. That girl is really a true drama queen” she told me.
“I know.. That’s why when I stood up against her, she almost punched me.. But then..”
“What? Tell me!” She was overly excited.
“He blocked the punch for me! He protected me!”
“He must really like you..” She sounded sad.
“I know, but I feel bad for making him angry.” I almost cried.
“Shhh… Don’t cry, Layla! Come on, it can’t be that bad.” She tried to calm me down.
“But it really is that bad! His face became furious. It’s just I don’t know.. I feel like I’m the one responsible for making him mad.”
“Ok, Layla. Stop it! He saved you. He wanted to do it, ok? I don’t want you to cry all day long just because you feel like everything is your fault.” Her sad face stopped my cry.
“Ok.”
“That’s the Layla that I know.” She smiled. “Come on, let’s go get lunch.”
“Ok. Let’s go!” I smiled.
When I was at the cafeteria, I saw Chris with Alex and Eric. They waved and I smiled. I ate a cheese burger while I was talking to my friends. They were still dazzled by Chris’s gorgeous face. Who wouldn’t? :)
After that day, all of the school were talking about Chris’s heroic act. He became the most popular boy in school (no wonder). He joined the basketball crew and quickly became captain. He was the leader of all the boys in school. It was great. Well, at least he didn’t forget me. :P
“Hey, Layla!” He ran to me when he was on a break from playing basketball with his friends.
“Hey, Chris! What’s up?”
“Just training for the competition. It’s on Saturday. Will you come to see me?” His pleading face is so sweet. x)
“Ok. I’ll be there.” I smiled.
“Well, I have to train again. See you.” He smiled.
“See you too.”
I was so happy. He asked me to come watch him. It was awesome ! xD
Its been a month since he came here. And guess what, today is Saturday. x) I was going to watch him play in the competition. But.. when I was going to go to the competition, my phone rang. Oh, a message.

Layla,
I can’t go to the competition. I can’t stand up!
My legs are hurting me. x(
I’m sorry, Layla.
I promise I’ll make it up to you somehow..ok ?
From : Chris

I sighed. I was upset, obviously, because I couldn’t watch him play. But he promised to make it up for me, so.. I’m not that too upset. :)

It’s fine, Chris. Just remember to keep your promise, ok ? :D
Hope your feet are getting better.
From : Layla

I will. ;D
Just wait, ok ?
From : Chris

I’ll be waiting. :)
From : Layla

I smiled when I said that. What was he trying to show me ? I was so thrilled! I just have to wait for it, I guess. The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus – Your Guardian Angel started to play. That was my ring tone.
“Hey, Mom.”
“Hello, dear. How are you? I miss you.” Mom sounded sad.
“I’m fine, Mom. I miss you too. How’s NYC?”
Yes, my mom was in NYC, she works there with my dad. They’re on a working tour. They’ll be back in two weeks. While they’re gone, I live with my big brother, Arthur Rainier. He’s a nice brother :) even though sometimes we argued a lot :P
“It’s great, Layla. I’ll be back soon, ok? How’s home?”
“It’s nice. Arthur took good care of me for the last couple weeks.” I said with a smile on my face.
“Oh, how nice to hear that. Listen, I have to go now. My boss is waiting. Dad says hi.”
“Ok, Mom. Tell Dad I said hi too. Bye.”
“Bye.”
Mmmm… What should I do? Since I wasn’t going to the competition. Maybe I should go shopping with my friends, I thought. But I decided I just sleep for the day..
It was sunny in the morning. I was surprised. A great day. I packed my bag and waited my big brother to take me to school.
“Arthur! Come on! I’m going to be late!”
“Layla, will you just be quiet for a while? I’m coming, ok?” Arthur said with a boring tone.
“Ok.”
That’s my big brother. He’s a college student at Harvards. That’s why he’s always bored because he’s always so stressed out.
When I came to school, I was almost late! The bell rang when I arrived at the class. Everyone was watching me. How embarrassing! ><>
“Layla!” She called.
“Yes, Mrs. Claire!” I saw my classmates were shocked by her sound.
“Please, come forward.”
I stood up and walked to her side. She wrote something and it looked like a.. hall pass.
“Here.” I took the hall pass. “Meet Mr. Mike, he wants to talk to you.”
“Yes, Mrs. Claire.”
Marza whispered to me. “Psstt…Layla! Where are you going?”
“Mr. Mike’s office.”
“Why?”
“I don’t know!” I said, half shouting.
Then I walked out of the class, gave the hall pass to the hall teacher. I started walking to Mr. Mike’s office slowly. I was enjoying my way there, watching the birds, who were flying to the trees at the school garden, and what the other classes were doing.
I knocked at the door.
“Come in.” Mr. Mike said with a calm tone. I opened the door.
“You called me, sir?” I sat on the chair in front of him.
“Yes, Layla. I want to tell you something.” He looked confused to tell me the news.
“What is it, sir?” I was wandering what was the news.
“Your grades are dropping, Layla. Your average score is D. You know that to graduate, you have to achieve the average score at least C.” Mr. Mike explained to me.
“Ooo…”
“What is it that bothers you, Layla? You’re a great student... “ He smiled. “But why are you grades dropping?”
“I don’t know, sir” I asked honestly. I don’t know that my grades are dropping.
“If your grades continue to drop, I have to call your parents to meet me, Layla.”
“Please, Mr. Mike. Don’t call my parents.” I pleaded.
“I know. But you must study harder, ok?”
“Yes, sir.”
“Ok. You may return to your class now.” Mr. Mike continued his writing in his book.
“Excuse me, sir.” I rose and went back to my class.
I was wondering why my grades are dropping? I studied hard for a long time. Maybe I was distracted. I was thinking about Chris all day. Yup, maybe that’s why…
When I returned to the class, the bell rang. Thank God! I didn’t have to study math with the killer teacher.
“Layla!”
“Hi, Grace. What’s up?”
“Where were you?”
“I was from Mr. Mike’s office. He said my grades are dropping.” I said with a sad face.
“Ooo…Well, you are thinking about Chris all the time. That’s why your grades are dropping.”
I laughed. “I know that! Haha… How do you know?”
“I often saw you looking at him, Layla! Well, he is handsome!” She laughed.
“Haha…”
“Well, I better get going. Don’t you want to eat?”
“No. I want to finish my homework. You know, for Science?”
“Ooo… Okay. See you then. Bye.”
“Bye.”
She waved and went to the cafeteria with Fika, Marza, and Jessica.
The class was almost empty. The boys were going to walk out of the door. I looked around and I found Chris. He was playing the guitar(that day, there was a Music class, that’s why he brought a guitar :D ).
“Layla.” His cool voice called me.
“Yeah?” He never called me like that.
He walked and sit by my side.
“I want to show you something.” He smiled. Then he played his guitar. He played one of Depapepe’s songs, Once Upon A Time. It’s a great song. It’s so romantic. I always loved to hear that song.
I smiled. I heard the melody of the guitar. It was so soothing. It made me want to sleep. I closed my eyes. I imagined that we (Chris and me) were running at the garden, playing, watching the birds. It was amazing. The song ended.
“Wow! It’s amazing, Chris!” I enjoyed it.
“Thanks, Layla.” He smiled. “I have to tell you something.”
“What?” I asked.
“I love you, Layla. Since the first time I saw you, I felt that you were something special. Know I realize, that you are the half of me. So please, will you be my girl?”

to be continued....
